South Brooklyn Curiosity Map
Print / Mobile
At Makewell we are lovers of travel and big fans of maps, adventures, history and design. Inspired by domestic and international adventures away from home and office, we found ourselves returning with fresh eyes and a new perspective. Excited by the surprise and unexpectedness that accompanies travel to new and foreign places, we challenged ourselves to pay close attention to the details at home, finding the hidden secrets of our neighborhood in Brooklyn.
The result was a fun and unusual map featuring two intersecting walking tours exploring local design and history in what is known as South Brooklyn. Finding curiosities around every corner, this full-sized map was self-propelled from research to design and in the end, a limited edition was printed with fluorescent and metallic inks before being distributed throughout the neighborhood as a free guide for tourists and locals alike. A mobile-friendly version was created as a supplement and for those not lucky enough to get their hands on a printed copy. The project drew media attention to Makewell and was featured in the Daily News and distributed by Brooklyn Historical Society.
